The Veil series is named for the extremely thin overlapping veils of acrylic paint. Louis was enormously influenced by Helen Frankenthalers soak stain technique, and felt she was a bridge between Pollock and what was possible. This canvas is one of Louis earliest experimentations with applying thin washes of pigment to the canvas, creating a large decorative ground that fuses paint and surface.
